Natural Reserve Trésor
GUYANA - Natural Reserve Trésor was established in 1993, when the Botanical Garden of the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, bought a 2500 ha parcel of land in the east of French Guyana. The reserve, situated between Roura and Kaw, is entirely covered with primary forest, and currently measures 4,000 hectares. The preservation of the reserve is trusted to the Association Trésor.
Since establishment, the Association Trésor created botanical pathways in the nature reserve. With these botanical routes, Trésor makes the forest accessible for visitors to discover and learn about all vegetation types, and the abundant plant and tree species that live in the reserve. Not only does the reserve host many plant species, but also an impressive diversity of animals are well represented in the reserve. Most larger fauna species are dependent on the forest to sustain their lives. Although they are abundantly present in the natural reserve, surprising meetings do happen as the larger animals often turn up unexpectedly!
