Education project

Education project logo The benefits of sustaining wild predators, by and large, can only be fully appreciated if one has a comprehensive understanding of the animal and its role in the ecosystem, and of the aesthetic value of the species to present and future generations. CCF's educational conservation programs address these benefits and encourage participation in conservation efforts, as humans play the greatest role in species survival for the future.

History has proven that conservation programs and efforts will not succeed unless targeted communities benefit from them. CCF works with these communities to build skills, which teach sustainable practices that provide direct and indirect benefits to their communities. The CCF programme focuses on natural resource management and land stewardship initiatives that will encourage entrepreneurial activities, linking Namibians with the natural resource base that supports their communities, while practicing sustainable livestock and wildlife management techniques.

Cheetah numbers have declined due to the loss and fragmentation of habitat, a decline in the prey base, and through killing by livestock farmers and game ranchers. The survival of cheetahs in African is interconnected to social, economic, and environmental factors, which are of international concern. The children of subsistence farmers are the future managers of livestock lands that include lands inhabited by Africa’s wildlife. Developing a clear understanding of the problems that farmers face with cheetahs, and learning what can be done to reach a compromise, are critical to ensuring the cheetahs’ habitat will be preserved for the future and the species has a chance to survive.

The whole concept behind CCF’s education programs is to enrich the lives of those that it touches; not just through education, but also through the CCF’s core message– “We can live together.”
