Nature education for local schoolchildren

The Society for the Coast believes it is crucial to involve local schoolchildren about the biodiversity that is present in their living environment. Education programmes are developed, initiatives are taken to get children interested in nature, and activities are planned to also visit the nature nearby. In the office of our Society in Podgrodzie an exhibition is made about nature of Szczecin Lagoon. In addition view towers and education paths are established.
The park gives the unique opportunity to see and feel what biodiversity typical for wetlands is about. The impressive herds of grazing Koniks and Scottish Highlanders show very clearly that they play a major role in nature conservation. The rare species of plants and endangered birds can all be seen and awareness is created that these are precious species we have the responsibility for to protect.
Since the establishment of the Odra Delta Park the staff members of the Society for the Coast have been active in communicating to local communities surrounding the park about why it is so important to have protected areas. Through our educational programme, which is mainly focused at local communities, we aim to strengthen the commitment for "their environment" starting from a new generation. Proof is provided that this is hugely important and effective: while local people were reluctant and wary in the beginning, it seems that active outreach in providing information is fruitful in achieving support from locals to protect Polish biodiversity. With the project Nature education for schoolchildren we hope to be able to continue to show children what nature is all about.
